The corona crisis had the unintended effect
of exposing the various forms of waste that had infested Japan's large
corporations. These include redundancies, unnecessary meetings, and jobs that
would not be greatly affected by their elimination. The inefficiencies that
everyone had long suspected were exposed.
There will surely come a time when
companies that are currently busy dealing with the crisis will have to face up
to these inefficiencies and take fundamental measures to deal with them.
The future of Japan's wage and salary
system must be viewed from a forward-looking perspective in order to chart its
course.
